かつて、日本を訪れる外国人旅行者の数は急激に伸び、鹿児島も例外ではありませんでした。マリンポートに寄港するクルーズ船の数は増加傾向にあり、鹿児島を訪れる外国人観光客の数はますます増えるものと予測されていました。ところが、2020年以降新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大に伴い、県内で外国人を見かける機会は急速に失われてしまいました。
　しかし、2023年3月からのクルーズ船の入港再開で鹿児島を訪れる外国人観光客は大幅に増加することが予想されており、鹿児島の魅力を十分に伝える通訳案内士等の資格を有するプロの通訳ガイドの存在がますます重要になってきております。
　現在、鹿児島県内には100名を超す通訳案内士の有資格者がおられますが、その中で実際に通訳ガイドとして活躍していらっしゃる方は少なく、他県からのガイドに頼ることも少なくありませんでした。このような状況を改善し、通訳案内士のレベルアップを図るために、2017年に一般社団法人鹿児島ワンダフルウォークを設立いたしました。主に有資格者のブラッシュアップ、またガイドに関心をお持ちの方を対象に座学や実習を通じてガイドの育成を図ることを目的としています。そして、鹿児島の魅力をぜひ地元のガイドでお客様にお伝えしたいと思っております。

Up until recent years, Japan was enjoying the increasing number of foreign tourists, and Kagoshima was no exception. The cruise vessels stopping at Marine Port was on the rise, and the number of foreign tourists visiting Kagoshima was expected to increase further. However, with the recent coronavirus pandemic, the expectation was quickly gone.
Japan is now reopened, and our city will soon be revived with many international visitors. Therefore, preparing for more professional interpreter- guides with government certifications, and who fully convey the appeal of Kagoshima, will become increasingly important.
Currently, there are over 100 qualified guides in Kagoshima Prefecture, but there are few people who actually play active roles as interpreter-guides. Thus, we have relied on guides from other prefectures.
To improve this situation, we established Kagoshima Wonderful Walk, a general incorporated association, in 2017 in order to raise the level of qualified interpreters. The purpose of this program is to brush up the skill of existing professionals and train guides through classes and practical training for those interested in the bilingual guides. We would also like to spread the appeal of Kagoshima to our customers through those local guides.
